You will need:

  • Modello® Vinyl Stencil: AchPan121 (Reverse Image)
  • Stain & Seal®: Rich Brown and Van Dyke Brown
  • SoSlow® Super Extender
  • Large chip brushes, cheesecloth, painter’s tape, scissors

Preparing Your Furniture

Sand your furniture piece. We used a palm sander to completely remove the previous finish and expose the raw wood.

Mix equal parts of Stain & Seal and SoSlow Super Extender. The extender will to increase translucency and your working time. Apply the mix using a chip brush and follow the grain of the wood. Remove and smooth any excess with cheesecloth as you continue the application.

Applying a Modello® Stencil to Your Furniture

Follow the Basic Modello® vinyl stencil installation instructions to apply the pattern to your surface.

Applying the Wood Stain

Mix 3 parts Van Dyke Stain & Seal and 1 part SoSlow Super Extender. Use a chip brush to apply the mix over the entire table top and follow the grain of the wood. Remove and smooth any excess with cheesecloth as you continue the application. Allow to dry for 15 minutes.

Apply a second coat of this mix, but this time use more SoSlow Super Extender so it creates a more translucent stain. Allow to dry.

Protect and Seal Your Stencil Design

You can remove the Modello® vinyl stencil immediately to reveal your wood furniture finish.

Use the weeding tool that comes with your order to pick out smaller design elements. Take care not to dig into your surface with the weeding tool. Just use it to lift the edge of the Modello® stencil pieces.

Apply the Rich Brown Stain & Seal to the entire table top and follow the grain of the wood. Remove and smooth any excess with cheesecloth as you continue the application. Allow to dry.

Seal your stenciled furniture with either wax or water-based polyurethane.

Enjoy your faux inlaid wood statement piece!
